Last year, I was biking into 2015 because the year started with a two month bicycle trip down the West Coast of the United States. This year, I traded in my bicycle for my hiking boots, and headed up to the the Blue Mountain Peak (2,256 metres) with twelve members of my Peace Corps family, plus GEORGE!
Before the day of our big hike, there was a going away party for Wes, a Peace Corps Jamaica staffer who started as a Peace Corps Volunteer and never left the island. Wes worked with Peace Corps Jamaica for 18 years, so it was a night of celebration and farewell. I agreed to design the backdrop for his party:
After an evening of bidding Wes farewell, we got ready the next morning to set out for our Blue Mountain hike! There are different points that you can start the hike, and we started near Hagley Gap where all of the hostels are located. We arrived at the hostels in the late afternoon and hung out until it was time to attempt to sleep for our 12:30AM rise. It was a jolly time of snackin' and jammin' with good company!
I would like to share more detailed thoughts on the hike in the future, but I must go for now---I will say that it was amazing and I couldn't have asked for a better way to start the year!
Bonus jam footage from a lazy morning with Phillip with coffee and music:
If anyone wants a Peace Corps Jamaica T-shirt (it has the header image from this blog on the back of the shirt), please let me know in the next couple of days and I'll place an order for you!
There is lots to post about, but I'm out of time...this post is short and sweet. Happy 2016!
