viewing collected insects under the microscope

Thanks to the power of ethanol and October bringing closure to our growing season, I finally have the time to sort through the insects that I collected this summer with my "bug jar" that I carried around while spending most of my time farming (and not wanting to spend beautiful days indoors in the lab). Here is a queen Carpenter Ant that I found this summer in my bedroom...the building I lived in had a bit of an ant problem... P1240041

I collected this red milkweed beetle, Tetraopes tetrophthalmus, on one of the many milkweeds popping up around the cucurbits.

More coming soon!
